The Community Engagement Intern supports Black Farmer Fund's Community Work Days program during the spring/summer season. This is a part-time, logistics-focused opportunity, ideal for someone who is organized, community-oriented, and ready to roll up their sleeves, both behind the scenes and on the ground! The primary focus of this internship is coordinating the administrative and operational logistics that make BFF's community work days run smoothly, with the opportunity to attend and staff a select number of work days in person. This position reports to the Senior Community Engagement Manager.

JOB DETAILS
- $24-26/Hour depending on experience;
- Reports directly to Senior Community Engagement Manager;
- Remote, part-time position; 6-10 hours per week; No opportunity for overtime;
- Employment Term is for the 2026 Spring/Summer farming season; Subject to renewal (the details of which TBD);
- Must reside in the Northeast with occasional travel for in-person work days;
- Candidates must have access to their own vehicle, a valid driver's license and proof of current auto-insurance, as the role may require driving to and from work day sites (e.g. picking up food, making supply runs, and supporting other on-the-ground logistics). All approved work-related mileage will be fully reimbursed.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Work Days - Administrative & Logistics Coordination (70%)
BFF hosts community work days throughout the summer that bring together Black farmers, food actors, staff, and volunteers for shared land-based work. The intern will be the key logistics support behind these convenings, keeping coordination running smoothly event to event. Responsibilities include:
- Coordinate lunch and food arrangements for work day participants, including sourcing, ordering, and confirming delivery or pickup logistics
- Track and communicate staff attendance and scheduling details ahead of each work day
- Assist with community outreach and send reminders to participants, volunteers, and partner organizations in advance of each event
- Coordinate logistics related to the storage facility, including tracking what supplies need to come out or be returned, maintaining simple inventory records, and flagging needs to relevant staff
- Help prepare and organize any materials, tools, or resources needed for work day activities
- Maintain organized records and trackers across work days to support planning and continuity
Community Work Days On-Site Staffing (Select Events) (30%)
The intern will have the opportunity to attend and staff at least 3 community work days in-person over the course of the summer. When on-site, responsibilities may include:
- Support day-of coordination and execution, including setup, supply management, and participant check-in
- Serve as a point of contact for participants, volunteers, and vendors on the ground
- Assist with managing food and lunch logistics on-site
- Take notes or gather informal feedback from participants to support program learning
- Help with breakdown, cleanup, and returning supplies to storage at the end of the day
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
- Experience or coursework in community organizing, program coordination, event planning, food systems, or a related field
- Prior experience with administrative coordination, logistics, or event support (paid or volunteer) is a plus
- Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Calendar) and/or other collaboration and event tools
- Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, professional emails
Skills & Knowledge
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and ability to track multiple moving pieces simultaneously
- Comfortable with outreach (e.g. able to send follow-up communications in a warm, professional, and persistent manner)
- Able to work independently and follow through on tasks with minimal oversight
- Comfortable with basic data entry, list management, and document organization
- Demonstrated interest in Black food systems, food sovereignty, community wealth building, or related areas
