JOB SUMMARY:
The Salvation Army World Service Office (SAWSO) is seeking an intern to support a “Lessons Learned” Review of The Salvation Army’s international emergency response to the Ukraine refugee crisis across the Eastern Europe. Since the onset of the war in February 2022, The Salvation Army has implemented humanitarian programming across the region, including food and hygiene assistance, psychosocial support, and educational services.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a multi-country evaluation focused on humanitarian response in a conflict and displacement context. The intern will assist in organizing and analyzing data from key informant interviews, beneficiary feedback, and internal documents to help generate actionable insights for future humanitarian programming. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in humanitarian response, program evaluation, and cross-cultural research to gain practical experience in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
Conduct background research and review internal documents related to the Ukraine refugee response.
Support the refinement and translation of interviews, survey protocol, and data collection instruments to/from English and Ukrainian (strongly desired).
Support data management and analysis by organizing, cleaning, and maintaining qualitative and quantitative datasets, including interview transcripts, survey responses, and internal documents.
Assist in coding and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data to identify key themes and insights.
Help synthesize findings into clear, actionable insights for inclusion in the final Lessons Learned Report and presentation materials.
Draft country-specific vignettes or spotlights highlighting field-level experiences and innovations.
Participate in regular check-ins with the project lead and contribute to team discussions on emerging themes and recommendations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current graduate student or recent graduate in international development, humanitarian affairs, public policy, or a related field.
Strong interest in humanitarian response, refugee assistance, and program evaluation.
Familiarity with Ukraine refugee experiences a plus.
Written and verbal fluency in Ukrainian (strongly desired)
Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis strongly preferred.
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks independently.
Cross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with diverse teams.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
A valid driver’s license.
