    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Salvation Army World Service Office (SAWSO) is seeking an intern to support the development of practical guidance and learning materials on cash and voucher assistance (CVA) programming. This internship will focus on collecting and synthesizing desk research on best practices in voucher-based humanitarian responses, as well as The Salvation Army’s global experience with voucher programs to develop accessible, field-ready tools for practitioners.

    The intern will work closely with technical advisors and field teams to develop an accessible “how-to” guide for designing and implementing voucher programs in emergency and recovery contexts. This includes synthesizing internal documentation, case studies, and interviews into user-friendly briefs and presentations. The role is ideal for someone passionate about humanitarian innovation, knowledge translation, and improving frontline program delivery.

    Conduct desk research on global best practices, operational models, and evaluation studies related to cash and voucher assistance (CVA), with a focus on humanitarian voucher programs.

    Review and synthesize internal documentation, case studies, and external literature to identify key lessons, innovations, and implementation strategies.

    Identify and synthesize best practices, lessons learned, and key operational insights from diverse country contexts.

    Draft a literature review summarizing key findings from academic and practitioner sources on voucher-based assistance in humanitarian contexts.

    Develop a practical, user-friendly “how-to” guide for field practitioners on designing and implementing voucher programs in emergency and recovery settings.

    Create accessible learning materials such as infographics, checklists, templates, and step-by-step guidance to support field-level implementation.

    Collaborate with the international emergency services team to ensure materials are relevant, accurate, and grounded in real-world experience.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Current graduate student or recent graduate in humanitarian assistance, international development, public policy, or a related field.

    Strong interest in cash and voucher assistance (CVA), humanitarian innovation, and knowledge translation.

    Experience conducting desk research and reviewing programmatic or evaluation documents.

    Familiarity with cash and voucher assistance (CVA) principles, tools, or frameworks is a plus.

    LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

    A valid driver’s license.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • Knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office365 (primarily Word and PowerPoint).
    • Ability to learn and retain the broad scope of all NHQ section operations and services in order to serve as an effective information resource and to aid in a timely and effective manner.
    • Ability to effectively and efficiently work on multiple deadline projects at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized.
    • Ability to gather, compile, and assemble information into a final professional appearance product for letters, records, reports, etc.

    MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

    Ability to meet attendance requirements.

    Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate the English language.
