Informed California Foundation produces and supports impactful, responsive, local accountability journalism in communities across the state.

Using Open Vallejo as a model, we will replicate our news, data, and litigation methodologies to areas across California that are underserved by local reporting. We will provide training and support to news hubs.

Open Vallejo seeks to illuminate a small city long burdened by police brutality, corruption, and neglect. Founded in March 2019, Open Vallejo has become a leading publisher of accountability reporting in one of California’s most troubled cities. The impact we have achieved thus far has led us to realize that Open Vallejo is more than a news organization — it is a laboratory.

Over the last 15 years there has been a 24% decrease in newspapers across the country, this according to the Hussman School of Journalism and Media at the University of North Carolina,. Compounding this loss is the decline of newspaper readership by a whopping a 45%. Information is power and the Informed California Foundation is focused on returning that power back to the people of California.
