    Our Story

Boston Mothers Care is a volunteer organization that formed in response to the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. We work in health care, community development, and facilities management. Our grassroots efforts are led by Haitian-born women who maintain close connections to home. In the past year, we have completed two aid missions, and adopted the village of Colminy in the Artibonite region to concentrate resources that will improve the quality of life for the 2,000 people who live there.

Soon after we returned from our September 2010 mission, cholera began to spread rapidly through the Artibonite plateau. Medical facilities continue to be overwhelmed and family members are grief-stricken, watching helplessly as their loved ones suffer and die for lack of clean water. The true impact of the epidemic may never be fully known. A recent government report gives estimates of nearly 5,000 casualties, many of those in the Artibonite region.

    About Colminy

Colminy is a parish of about 2,000 people located in the section 5 Jean Louis area of the Artibonite Department. Because it is a rural area, it is difficult to reach by ordinary means of transportation. This makes getting basic necessities like food, water, and medicine a daily challenge.

    Our Mission

Our mission is to improve and sustain the health, infrastructure and quality of life in Colminy by providing clean water. Our goals are to increase agricultural production, sustain the local school, and provide access to health care.
