Sobre Nós

Founded in 1979, Student Pugwash USA (SPUSA) is a national non-profit organization that promotes the socially responsible application of science and technology in the 21st century. As a student organization, we encourage young people to examine the ethical, social, and global implications of science and technology, and to make these concerns a leading focus of their academic and professional endeavors. SPUSA offers educational programs that are interdisciplinary, intergenerational, and international in scope, reflecting a belief that all citizens share a responsibility to ensure that science and technology are utilized for the benefit of humankind. SPUSA is guided by a respect for diverse perspectives and, as such, does not adopt advocacy positions on substantive issues. The goal of Student Pugwash USA programs, in short, is to engage as many young people as possible in sound exploration of key dilemmas at the juncture of science, technology, and society. We are the US student affiliate of the 1995 Nobel Peace Prize-winning organization, Pugwash Conferences on Science and World Affairs. Student Pugwash USA is one of over 20 national Student and Young Pugwash groups around the world.

The themes examined by SPUSA include issues in Security and Nuclear Weapons, Technology and Society, Science in the Developing World, Genetics, and the Environment.
