As an organization, NUFFI works to: improve the lives of City of Newburgh residents who are experiencing food insecurity and diet-related illnesses; and educate residents and youth on the connections of the environment, food, and health and wellness.
Programs include:
- The Downing Park Urban Farm (DPUF) is a 2-acre community-based farm in the middle of the City that is a model for urban growing techniques using organic practices.
- A Food Donation Program , which donates produce grown at DPUF to Newburgh feeding programs. The program provides Newburgh residents who are food insecure access to healthy fresh produce, and reduces food waste by facilitating community and residential gardens and the DPUF, a way to distribute their produce to local feeding programs.
- The Newburgh Urban Farming Fair - An annual free outdoor event celebrating urban farming/gardening with exhibits, how-to demonstrations, children’s activities, and vendors.
