Who We Are
Independent Education (IE) is an association of 80 independent, private schools educating 31,000 students from nursery school through Grade 12 located in the greater Washington, D.C. region. It includes schools in Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and one school in Pennsylvania.
What We Do
IE is a small, non-profit organization committed to fostering high professional standards and sound educational practices at and among its member schools through innovative leadership and professional development programs for boards of trustees, heads of schools, administrators, and teachers. IE is the leading advocate for independent education in the region, working with media, government, educational and community individuals and groups to sustain and strengthen independent education in the Washington, D.C. area.
