General Needs Ltd. is an all-volunteer, 501(C)(3) non-profit supporting homeless Veteran’s on Long Island since 2008. General Needs supports many Emergency and Transitional Housing facilities throughout Long Island and Queens. From 2008 to 2018, the need has grown, and we have expanded our support to follow the veterans from homelessness back to independent living. In 2008, we supported about 45 veterans approximately 3-4 times per year or as the budget allowed. In 2017, we routinely supported 200 veterans per month in 5-6 shelters from Queens to Riverhead. We raise funds through grants, corporate sponsorships with many of the large organizations on Long Island: PSEG, NationalGrid, TD Bank, MACY’s and many others. In addition, we partner with many community and civic philanthropic organizations such as Rotary District 7255, Townwide Fund of Huntington and Moonjumpers. As a veteran focused organization based in Suffolk County, we are registered with Suffolk County and must renew or certification annually.
