MA Health Council

The Massachusetts Health Council is an excellent example of advocacy modestly at work behind the scenes for major public benefit: to improve everyone's health. The concept for the Massachusetts Health Council arose from collaborative efforts of medical professionals during World War I to prevent the spread of tuberculosis. Officially established in 1920, the MHC gathers healthcare leaders from every corner of the state and from opposing policy sides to address ways of improving public health. MHC was an early and effective advocate for pasteurized milk and fluoridated water.Today we investigate the effects on health status of obesity, air pollution, alcohol consumption, poverty, access to care... to name just a few issues the MHC addresses.
