Santa Cruz Shakespeare

Santa Cruz Shakespeare (SCS) is a new, independent nonprofit theatre company based in Santa Cruz, California and dedicated to the plays of William Shakespeare and other dynamic playwrights whose work celebrates language. As a 33 year-old “start-up,” SCS will sustain the level of professional, thought-provoking theater that was the hallmark of its predecessor (Shakespeare Santa Cruz), while developing its own unique brand and vision for the future. In addition to its summer repertory season, SCS offers a number of education and outreach initiatives that serve and engage community members of all ages.

Thanks to the generosity of its founding donors and the fiscal sponsorship of Arts Council Santa Cruz County, SCS’s 2014 Summer Season is fully forward-funded. The organization’s Board and senior staff plan to retain this innovative business model for the 2015 season and beyond and are working to develop long range plans that support this objective while growing the company. SCS is run by a dedicated staff of 3 full time and over 50 seasonal employees, hosting theatre artists from throughout the Bay Area and beyond over the course of its summer repertory season.
