Excellent Development

Excellent is a UK-based charity supporting subsistence farmers and their families to gain access to clean water and grow more food to eat, store and sell. We support communities to build sand dams which provide clean water and the potential to invest time in sustainable agriculture.

Our purpose • To support farmers in developing countries to gain access to clean water and grow enough food to eat and sell; • To promote sand dam technology and environmental conservation; • To support organisations to implement sand dams alongside food and water programmes.

Since its launch in 2002 Excellent Development has enabled over 200,000 people to gain access to a sustainable clean water supply.

The charity has won several awards for its work enabling communities to use sand dams to provide clean water, including: • 2008 Charity Awards (Environment and Overall winner), • 2009 Third Sector Excellence Awards ‘Small Charity, Big Achiever’, • 2009 St Andrew’s Prize for the Environment - Runner Up • 2010 Charity Times Awards (Small Charity of the Year - Highly Commended).
