The Northwest Intertribal Court System (NICS) is a tribal consortium founded in 1979 and incorporated in 1980 to provide judicial, prosecutorial, and appellate services to seven federally recognized Indian tribes located in Western Washington State in a manner that recognizes each tribe's sovereignty, individual character and traditions. Member tribes include Chehalis, Muckleshoot, Port Gamble S'Klallam, Sauk-Suiattle, Shoalwater Bay, Skokomish, and Tulalip Tribes. NICS is a non-profit organization operating under policies promulgated by a Governing Board, which is composed of one appointed representative from each member tribe. An executive director implements the policies at the Board's direction.
