About the Open Government Partnership

The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is an international, voluntary effort to improve government performance, encourage civic participation and enhance government responsiveness to people. OGP aims to secure concrete commitments from governments to promote transparency, empower citizens, fight corruption, and harness new technologies to strengthen governance. OGP is overseen by a Steering Committee composed of governments and civil society organizations in equal numbers, a unique model that embodies the goal of civic participation. In its first 2 years, the organization has grown to 60 countries. As OGP participants, each country submits a country action plan to improve governance and commits to independent reporting on their progress going forward through the Independent Reporting Mechanism (IRM).

About the Independent Reporting Mechanism

The IRM is a key means by which all stakeholders can track progress on development and implementation of action plans in OGP participating countries. By tracking progress, it promotes strong accountability between member governments and citizens. The IRM works primarily through annual independent assessment reports for each OGP participating government. Each report will assess country on development and implementation of action plans, progress in fulfilling open government principles, and will develop technical recommendations.
