Sobre Nós

Special Options Service (SOS) is an alternative to pretrial detention for non-violent juvenile and young adult criminal defendants between the ages of 18 and 25. The SOS Program is founded on the premise that many young offenders may go on to lead law-abiding lives when provided with appropriate support and access to education, job-training, and counseling that may have been unavailable to them prior to their arrest.

The SOS Tutoring Program provides additional educational assistance to a small number of Program participants. The participants' current academic abilities range from roughly third to seventh grade, so tutoring is intended to provide much needed remediation in an engaging and nurturing environment. Most of the participants intend to take the GED, so much of our tutoring focuses on preparing for that test. However, educational enrichment and mentoring are the primary goals of the Program.
