Literacy Volunteers of Union County

Literacy Volunteers of Union County, Inc. (LV-UC) is a non-profit organization that improves the lives of adults in central New Jersey by teaching them to read, write and speak English so they can participate more fully in family, workplace and community life. LV-UC provides quality instruction to adult learners by training, mobilizing and supporting volunteers as certified tutors in basic literacy, life skills and English as a Second Language. LV-UC:

• enables adult students to acquire the skills to improve their ability to read, write and speak English;
• provides adult students with educational opportunities toward gaining a secondary school diploma or its equivalent;
• enables adult students to become active and informed parents with the abilities to help their children with school work, read to their children, have increased contact with their children's schools, etc.;
• enables adult students to attain other personal literacy-related goals (for example, attaining a driver's license or becoming a citizen); and
• enhances and accelerates our students' progress toward playing a more productive role in the NJ workplace and society in general.\\
