Communities In Schools of the Northeast

Communities In Schools is the nation’s largest stay-in school network, serving just over one million youth in 154 communities across the United States. CIS is providing the link between teachers and the community – by bringing caring adults into the schools and community sites to meet children’s needs. This link gives children the much-needed opportunity to focus on learning and their future.

Communities In Schools of the Northeast (CISNE) is a three-year old non-profit organization that works collaboratively with schools, agencies and organizations to connect community resources and affect a greater future for area youth. The organization covers 16 counties including Beaufort, Bertie, Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Halifax, Hertford, Hyde, Northampton, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrell, Warren and Washington. Developed as a result of collaboration between Communities In Schools, Roanoke Economic Development, Inc. and the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, CISNE works to ensure young people remain in school, learn needed skills and prepare for post secondary education and careers.
