VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) is an IRS-sponsored programs operated by local volunteers to provide free, confidential and secure preparation and e-filing of Federal and Colorado State income taxes for taxpayers who qualify. For the 2015 tax year (filed in 2016), this service is available for basic returns with income up to $54,000.Volunteers are fully trained and certified by the IRS to prepare taxes at levels of basic through advanced. No charge to volunteers for this training. Time commitment is about six hours a week January through April of the year. Training begins in late November.We serve the entire Teller County area in Colorado with sites in Woodland Park and Cripple Creek.
