Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm

Sobre Nós

Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm educates the community on where food comes from and how it can be better produced. The Farm’s focus is on organic and sustainable farming. Nearly all veggies, fruit, and more that can be grown in Silicon Valley are being grown organically at Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm.

Everyone who comes to the Farm takes away something that will help them make better choices in the food that they eat and the way that they live. Kids learn that eggs come from chickens, living creatures that deserve to be treated well, have space to roam, and healthy food to eat. Adults learn that chemical fertilizers are not needed when a few simple all-natural practices are adopted, such as composting and crop rotation.

The three missions of Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm are: 1) Ethical and symbiotic relationship of life 2) Education to all those who consider us community on how to treat life ethically and symbiotically 3) Strive to keep a balance of symbiosis with the community; however, NEVER bend ethically.

Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm educates through 3 channels: Farm Tours, Farm to Picnics, and Volunteering.

Farm Tours

Guided Tours take visitors on a journey opening their minds to what healthy wholesome food looks like and inspires them to want to take part in the creation of their own food. On the fun tour visitors get to pet a chicken, touch eggs in the nest boxes, see hundreds of different veggies, fruits, nuts, herbs, hops, and grains growing and learn great tips to grow these foods organically and sustainably.

Farm to Picnics

Farm to Picnics take the Farm Tour a step further by showing guests how good fresh, vegetarian, and wholesome food can be. Guests start with the guided Farm Tour, and then are seated at an elegant table in the garden where the food that they will eat was produced. Six courses of slow food are served, each featuring the produce currently harvesting in a creative and delicious way.

Volunteering

Each week volunteers catch up with old friends, meet new ones, and have fun conversations about food, all while working hard. Volunteering brings our community together with the fun of working the land (all with hand tools) and the education on how to do it. Volunteers learn the skills and confidence to succeed in their own food production, plus get a free lunch made from the food harvested. Volunteers also go home with a bag of fresh produce. Most of what is produced at the Farm goes to the volunteers who helped produce it.

Many people ask “why ‘Hummingbird’ Farm?” Often the hummingbird is used to describe a beautiful symbiosis; it is fed while it feeds. This is the Farm’s model and final goal within the community and beyond.

Hollyhill Hummingbird Farm is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt Nonprofit and runs solely on donations.
