Volunteers Heart For Africa (VHFA) is a non-governmental organization committed to fighting hunger, lack of education and medical care among children in desperate need, and fighting illiteracy in adult women and men. VHFA is directed towards orphans, children suffering from poverty and infected by HIV/AIDS, and provide them with a decent standard of living. In doing so, we also aim to raise conscious in society by teaching individuals basic skills that will help the surrounding communities to develop. We protect and support children, young people, elderly and widows. We do this by providing practical and emotional care and support. We make sure their voices are heard. And we connect people around the world in the fight to end poverty. Working together, we invest in the lives of children and youth, to build the healthy environments

The organization was founded in 2009. VHFA was primarily an orphanage that provided shelter, food, and clothing for children who had lost their parents to HIV/AIDS. As time progressed and we expanded, the VHFA began taking care of other children suffering from poverty in our surrounding community. We decided not to limit ourselves to the children in the Children’s support centers then but to provide support to children living with elderly relatives or sick parents and poverty stricken families.

In October 2016 we began a deinstitutionalization process, which consisted of tracing families, restoring relationships between children, families and their communities, and developing alternative community-based services for families and children. The children who have been transitioned back into family placements continue to be provided with education, healthcare and sustainable project opportunities through our ongoing Child Sponsorship program.

We continue to develop child-centred community development programs that will assist whole communities to meet the needs of their own children.

    Women/Widows Empowerment:

We care about women from poor families who do not have access to any basic needs such as food, clothes, and medical services.

We also train women and girls to utilize modern methods of farming and encourage them to establish small hold gardens, where they can grow food to feed their families as well as generate income. We establish a demonstration farm where community members can come to learn different farming skills and receive free seeds plus harvested crops and we train them in craft making.

Volunteers Heart For Africa seeks to reach out to the poor and disadvantaged through sponsorship and sustainable development projects that promote empowerment and self-sufficiency.

At VHFA we have a strong Christian zeal based on the Bible scripture in James 1:27 about helping orphans and widows overcome hopelessness.
