Sobre Nós

The A.J. Muste Memorial Institute was founded in 1974 to further the goals of its namesake, American pacifist leader A.J. Muste: to explore and teach how nonviolence can be used to bring about world peace, and social and economic justice. The Institute works to educate the public about nonviolence, and to promote and support groups engaged in nonviolent action, educational work and grassroots organizing for social and economic justice.

We do this through four main program areas:

1) We provide direct and donor-advised grants to such groups;
2) We provide fiscal sponsorship to such groups;
3) We provide subsidized office space to such groups in the building we own and manage in downtown Manhattan; and
4) We publish and distribute educational materials about nonviolence and social change, including a series of pamphlets, a biography of A.J. Muste, and a book of essays by A.J. Muste.
