Shared Interest

Shared Interest is a New York-based non-profit social investment fund mobilizing U.S. support for grassroots economic development in South Africa. Shared Interest guarantees South African bank loans to community lending institutions engaged in South Africa's reconstruction process. Through its South African partners, Shared Interest strengthens grassroots organizations and enables them to provide increasing amounts of affordable credit for very small businesses, low-cost housing and rural development in South Africa's lowest income communities. In the US, Shared Interest works to connect communities of color and others that have campaigned to end apartheid to the process of building an equitable new nation. Shared Interest was founded in 1994.
