Self-Help Enterprises

Self-Help Enterprises (SHE) is a nonprofit community development organization founded in 1965 to help low-income families of California's San Joaquin Valley improve their living conditions. Beginning with mutual self-help housing as a way to build community and promote homeownership, SHE has grown to provide rehabilitation and weatherization repairs, develop water and sewer infrastructure in rural communities, build and sustain affordable housing, and teach classes in homebuyer education for first-time homebuyers. Over forty years, more than 5,500 self-help homes have been built, 35,000 homes weatherized, over 20,000 households served with water and sewer infrastructure, and over 1,000 rental units created.
