Volunteer Services Council of the San Antonio State Hospital

The Volunteer Service Council of the San Antonio State Hospital is a state-chartered, 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization. The Council was incorporated in 1955 with assistance from the Modernist Round Table of the Woman’s Club of San Antonio. The Council’s primary mission is to improve the quality of life and enhance the well being of patients under care at the San Antonio State Hospital by providing goods and services not funded through traditional state funding.

SASH is proud of its very active Volunteer Services Council which, among other contributions, has provided the patients and hospital with the following:

• Individual Christmas and birthday gifts
• Holiday and birthday celebrations and parties
• Monthly allowance for long term geriatric patients with no financial resources
• Special requests for individual patients
• Tickets to recreational activities
• Transportation to job interviews
• All Faiths Chapel
• Baseball diamonds
• Meditation Garden
• Patric Sexton Dennis Memorial Center
• Navarro Shade Pavilions
• Adolescent Sports Court
• San Jacinto Oasis
• Monuments for Mount Calm East
• Adolescent Unit Raised Beds
• Adolescent Unit Playscape

The Volunteer Services Council also supports a Volunteer Workforce who provide service in various areas of the hospital. Some volunteer opportunities include:

• Patient Activity Volunteer
• Administrative Assistant Volunteer
• Group Volunteers for Patient Events (ex: Patient and Family Thanksgiving, Valentines Day Dance)
• Accounting Volunteers
