East River Ensemble exists to produce, promote, and support independent theater artists based in New York. It serves as the producing entity for the artistic work of its two directors: East River Commedia, an international theater company founded by artistic director Paul Bargetto, and Conni’s Avant Garde Restaurant, an interactive acting ensemble led by executive director Connie Hall. Jointly, they produce the biennial undergroundzero summer festival of contemporary theater held in lower Manhattan. The festival provides an artist-driven presenting platform, encourages mutual exchange among participants, and facilitates global dialogue in the performing arts.
