Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services

Beginning with the founding of a day nursery in 1910, and expanding to a home for orphaned and abandoned children in 1923, the organization is approaching a centennial of experience in caring for Arkansas’ most vulnerable children and youth. For Lulu Williamson, the "founding mother" of Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services, her goal was always to help youth experience a true, caring home, no matter their circumstances. Today, Vera Lloyd’s mission still echoes its founder’s intent: to heal, prepare and empower children, youth and families in need.

This commitment expresses itself through an array of services. Nurturing homes provide a safe place for children who have been abused, neglected or lost their way. Trauma-informed training provides a deep level of understanding of youth issues and therapeutic practices which facilitate healing and stability. The Transition Services Program assists youth as they prepare to age out of foster care or as they learn to live independently. The Resource Parent Training Program provides trauma-informed training to foster and adoptive parents of children from "hard places".

VLPFS currently offers care for foster children, including: emergency shelter, intensive residential treatment (QRTP), and therapeutic homes for DYS youth. Vera Lloyd is licensed to serve youth ages 6 to 21 from throughout the state of Arkansas.
