Maryville College is ideally located in Maryville, Tennessee, on the front porch of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Knoxville, the state‘s third-largest city. Founded in 1819, it is the 12th-oldest institution of higher learning in the South. Known for its academic rigor and its focus on the liberal arts, Maryville is where students come to stretch their minds and learn how to make a difference in the world.

Athletics A variety of sports and recreational programs are available to students. The varsity athletic program is a non-scholarship program affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Division III. In addition, the college sponsors intramural sports for on-campus play and club sports for competition with other schools and leagues.

Varsity Sports: Baseball (men), basketball (men, women), cheerleading (women), football (men), soccer (men, women), softball (women), tennis (men, women), volleyball (women), cross-country (men, women), and golf (men, women)

Club Sports: Dance and equestrian

Intramural Sports: Basketball (5-on-5 and 3-on-3), flag football, bowling, racquetball, soccer, softball, volleyball, kickball, and Frisbee golf

Scholarships

The college offers a broad array of scholarships. In fact, the majority of Maryville College students receive scholarship and/or need-based assistance. In addition to scholarships based on outstanding academic achievement and personal achievement, MC offers scholarships that reward leadership skills as well as excellence in music, art, or theater. Maryville also participates in the Bonner Scholars program, which provides scholarship assistance to students in exchange for community service.

Accreditation

Maryville College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate degrees. The National Association of Schools of Music accredits all of the major programs in music. The Maryville College programs in teacher education are approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. The Maryville College English as a Second Language Program is an approved member of the American Association of Intensive English Programs. The Maryville College Program for Nonprofit Leadership is certified by American Humanics.
