Charleston Habitat for Humanity

Charleston Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Affordable home ownership provides transformational change for local families earning 35-60% of the area median income. We keep construction costs down by using volunteers to build our homes and then sell those safe new homes to partner families with a zero interest mortgage. While local rental rates for a one-bedroom apartment average $1700/month, our mortgages are between $500-$600/month. The drastic reduction in housing costs often means these families no longer have to make terrible choices, like purchasing medication instead of healthy snacks, or car repairs instead of winter coats.
