Collaborative Arts Middle School

At the Collaborative Arts Middle School (CAMS) we are obsessed with the success of our students. Planting the seeds of a college-ready education in middle school, our students will leave the halls of CAMS better equipped to contribute to the advancement of themselves and the world. We are a school for every learner, where each student analyzes his or her own data to identify and conquer weaknesses, enhance strengths, and craft goals. Focusing on providing each student with a standards-based, technology infused, project driven educational experience, we set high expectations coupled with high levels of support. Our instructional design is rooted in tailored instruction coupled with academic intervention strategies. Knowing that middle school learners are unique in their development, we seek to teach the entire student through programs like Advisory that help middle school learners and families make the transition from elementary school to high school.

The arts encourage and inspire our work. In sixth grade--the exploratory year--students are exposed to all disciplines (vocal music, theater, dance, and visual arts). During the next two years, students concentrate on one art form, learning its technical aspects, historical background, and the unique career opportunities made available in the cultural hubs of New York City.

Believing that "Service is the rent we pay for living," CAMS has a commitment to service. Our students are charged with design and executing community service projects year round. In sixth grade, CAMS learners focus on local contributions. In seventh grade, services is centered on the national community; while eighth graders search the globe for areas in need of contribution.
