San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

The mission of the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts shall be to establish and maintain a museum in order to house and exhibit a permanent collection of art as well as to provide space for traveling exhibitions, for the purpose of the enjoyment and education of the general public in San Angelo, Texas, and the rural communities of the Concho Valley. The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts has three galleries two with dramatic 40-foot ceilings, a multi-purpose meeting room that can accommodate up to 300 people. There is also a large rooftop sculpture terrace with a beautiful view of the city. SAMFA also has a research library, which is open to the public by appointment, as well as an education wing that is equipped with classrooms and ceramic studios. In November of 2003 the museum received the National Award for Museum Service from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services. In 2005 the museum achieved accreditation by the American Association of Museums (AAM). The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts operates one of the most extensive art education programs for its' size of any museum in the nation. Although the museum does provide numerous programs for adults, we have placed heavy emphasis on children's programs. This is because our community is relatively remote and art and cultural opportunities for children are very limited. We collaborate with more than a dozen organizations in our community and directly and extensively with the San Angelo Independent School District, the offices of Region IX and local school districts up to 100 miles away. Currently the museum is impacting over 100,000 people annually through visitation, on-site and outreach programs. The museum provides over 4,000 hours of service annually to the community.
