Joel's Place for Children

Joel's Place for Children provides grief support groups for children who have experienced the death of a family member.

Joel's Place provides free, biweekly support groups for children who have experienced the death of someone significant in their lives. Support groups are one and a half hours and are held on the east and west sides of Cleveland. Children are encouraged to express their feelings and share memories of the person who died. For example, at a recent group the children painted commemorative clay plates. During the summer of 2006 a Butterfly Release was held at Cahoon Park in Bay Village. Each child was given a butterfly to release in memory of their famly member. Groups are ongoing, the children decide the duration of their participation. The groups are facilitated by volunteers who complete a 20 hour training.
