A Very Merry Birthday believes that every child deserves a birthday! A Very Merry Birthday aims to provide a birthday celebration to children in struggling families in the Greater New Haven area who would otherwise go without.

About Us:

Thirty-one percent of New Haven residents live below the poverty line and may not be able to afford birthdays. A Very Merry Birthday believes that celebrating a child for his/her birthday reinforces self-worth and family connectedness.

A Very Merry Birthday is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that recruits volunteers and matches them with a child from a struggling family for his/her birthday. The volunteer, or Birthday Hero, provides gifts and a cake for the child's birthday. A Very Merry Birthday partners with local organizations that serve economically disadvantaged families in the New Haven community. Partnering organizations provide information to families served about A Very Merry Birthday's program and families can opt to join. Volunteers purchase birthday cakes and gifts and then drop them off at the partnering organization's office. Partnering organizations then coordinate the pick-up of gifts and cake with families in order to maintain confidentiality.
