In 1995, in a single rented room in an aging house in Riverside, the Women's Center of Jacksonville was born. The Women's Center was created to help women overcome social, economic, and personal barriers. Originally a referral service, it grew to fill the need for better and more compassionate services and, in some cases, to fill a void where there were no services at all.
As services evolved, the center grew out of its one room and claimed the entire house and, then, the house next door. Despite this growth, women still waited to receive the services they need. In 2002, the ideal location was found—a 7300 square foot professional building just off University Boulevard, adjacent to the Clifton neighborhood of Arlington.
Today, the Women's Center of Jacksonville touches the lives of nearly 10,000 women and girls every year.
