Bernadette's House

Bernadette’s House, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) charitable nonprofit organization that was founded in October 2012.  Our volunteer staff is dedicated to providing a safe and supportive home-like environment for preteen and teenage girls who live in and around the Laurel, Maryland area. Careful consideration is taken to develop programs that foster critical thinking and problem solving skills that empower our youth to make life choices that will have a positive impact on their futures.  Our mentoring program matches each girl with a mentor who is dedicated to establishing a nurturing relationship that encourages the mentee to embark on a journey of self-discovery and "dare to dream" of a life full of extraordinary possibilities.  We are committed to excellence in all that we do.

Our programs lead teen girls through a path of self-discovery in a series of workshops and activities that help them develop strategies to overcome the obstacles that they face.  BH girls learn the importance of self-reflection, critical thinking, goal-setting and accountability. BH girls are encouraged to further their education and explore career interests and opportunities, develop work readiness skills and learn fundamental business and economic concepts.  Our specially trained coaches introduce the essential ethical pillars of Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. BH girls are taught the importance of proper nutrition, etiquette and social graces.

Bernadette's House welcomes  parents and the community at large and offers workshops and discussion groups on a variety of relevant topics including: parenting in the 21st century, health and hygiene, substance abuse prevention, young mothers' groups, STD prevention, date rape, violence and abuse, anger management and teen pregnancy.

Bernadette's House recognizes the importance of women's economic empowerment and has launched a model business incubator program to advance entrepreneurship and potentially increase jobs within the community. BH provides the start-ups with affordable office space and equipment, professional support and counseling and other shared services designed to help the businesses get off the ground and succeed.
