Our Mission
Burrowing Owl Conservation Network advocates for the protection and restoration of the Burrowing Owl and promotes the preservation and careful management of habitat to prevent loss, foster healthy populations, and maintain intact natural communities for an ecologically sound future.
Over the last 30 years the western burrowing owl has been under siege from habitat loss in Canada, Mexico and the United States. It was once described as a common species known to almost all California residents, but over time populations have dwindled and in some regions been driven to extinction. We believe burrowing owls are vital to maintaining healthy, functioning ecosystems.
Our Vision
We aim to reverse a trend that currently promotes extirpation of the Western Burrowing Owl and establish a plan by which municipalities embrace Burrowing Owls and Sustainable Development for the benefit of open spaces, wildlife, people and ecosystems. We will strive to achieve this through:
