Congo Yetu Initiative (CYI)

About Congo Yetu Initiative The name Yetu means "Ours" in Swahili. Congo Yetu Initiative "CYI" is a grassroots, non-profit organization of passionate, dynamic, and energetic volunteers working in Ottawa and in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). We aim to provide support to women and children in the DRC. Our volunteers come from many professional and personal backgrounds, from many ages, and from across Canada and the United States as well as from many of the Southern Countries in which we work. CYI members believe in sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for women and children who are victims of war in the DRC, regardless of religion or ethnicity.

Our organization

Organizational Structure CYI is comprised of the following governance structure: executive committee, board of directors, Members, Volunteers and contributors.

The executive committee is composed of a president, vice-president, a secretary and a treasurer. The overall responsibilities of the executive committee are to coordinate the day-to-day running of the organization. The board of directors is composed of the executive committee and 8 other board members.

The board is responsible for defining and driving the strategic direction of the organization, ensuring directives are administered, and reporting back to the board on the progress of their joint action teams. The general membership is composed of voting members who elect the board at the annual general meeting.

Mission

Building lives towards nation transformation through

• Awareness and empower women and children victim of sexual violence;

• stop violence by promoting the use of effective conflict management and resolution strategies;

• To engage the state and non-state parties in developing collaborative approaches towards peace and sustainable development;

• To promote and facilitate democratic good governance, justice, stability, accountability and transparency.

Vision

We believe to become a centre of excellence in promoting sustainable peace, security, development and children and women rights by sharing knowledge and creating opportunities for the underprivileged regardless of religion, caste, creed, ethnicity and background. To work towards supporting our clients through lifecycle needs, such as economic, financial, education and healthcare, leading to Holistic development.
