Sobre Nós

Founded in 1820, St. Luke’s is a vibrant, inclusive Episcopal parish located in the heart of Greenwich Village. The Church was founded by a small group of residents from the river-front village of Greenwich named after St. Luke, the physician evangelist, in recognition of the village’s role as a refuge from the yellow fever epidemics that plagued New York City during the summers. The Outreach programs of St. Luke’s are the social service branch of the Church. These programs are all secular and offered free of charge. St. Luke's is perhaps best known for The AIDS Project of St. Luke's, which, starting in the 1980s, provided Saturday dinners and teas, weekend vigils in hospital wards, and support and succor to thousands of afflicted persons. Outreach programs are currently focused in two areas: a drop-in center for homeless LGBTQ+ young people that provides dinner, art programs, resources, and referrals, offered on Saturday nights year-round, and a partnership with GO Project NYC, which offers intensive academic tutoring and family support services for low-income public school students who are at risk of falling behind, starting early in their elementary years.
