PUBLIC COUNSEL

Public Counsel is dedicated to advancing equal justice under law by delivering pro bono legal services to indigent and underrepresented children, adults and families throughout Los Angeles County, and ensuring that other community-based organizations serving this population also have legal support, and mobilizing the pro bono resources of the community's attorneys, law students and volunteers.

Founded in 1970, Public Counsel is the public interest law office of the Los Angeles County and Beverly Hills Bar Associations. It is also the Southern California affiliate of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.Public Counsel's six law projects include legal specialties in Community Development and nonprofit law; Child Care law; Children's Rights including adoptions, guardianships, and dependent children's tort claims; Consumer Fraud including bankruptcy, home equity abuse and loan fraud; Homelessness Prevention serving youth, veterans and individuals seeking general relief; and Immigrants' Rights law with a focus on asylum and cases that invoke the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
