  • Missão

    The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. There is never a fee to any athlete or their family to participate in our program.

    Special Olympics is an organization that unleashes the human spirit through the transformative power and joy of sports everyday on every island throughout our state. Through work in sports, health education and community building, Special Olympics is addressing inactivity, injustice, intolerance and social isolation by encouraging and empowering people with intellectual disabilities (ID) which leads to a more welcoming and inclusive society. With the support of more than 7,000 coaches and volunteers, Special Olympics Hawai‘i is able to deliver 9 Olympic-type sports and more than 40 competitions to over 3,500 children and adults in Hawai’i throughout the year. All services provided by SOHI are free of charge to all athletes and their families.
