Mission: We are dedicated to preparing youth for success and rejuvenating the spirit of seniors by opening doors of opportunity to create and perform, while encouraging personal growth and social well-being to enhance the quality of life for the people and communities we serve.

The Power Tools for Life program was created to provide youth (grades 4-12) with after school or in-class workshops that develop creative problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and enrichment activities that focus on sharing cultural and inter-generational experiences, as well as opportunities to participate in the Arts, and community service oriented activities.

The Power Tools method is a curriculum teaching drama, creative script writing, and coping skills. Workshops are facilitated by two Instructors. Activities are composed of acting, improvisation, script writing, journaling, and meditation. Workshop participants write and develop interactive, theme based performances that include audience participation.

Themes are chosen, researched, and performed by the participants. Because New York is so culturally diversified, we have developed theme templates that give participants a creative forum to share their individual cultures and life experiences: “Holidays Around The World,” “Black History Month Celebration,” “Women’s History Month Celebration,” and “What Would You do?” Shows are taped in the studio and broadcast on our weekly Queens Public Television series.

Power Tools provides an ongoing forum for youth to bond as a group and foster positive relationships with adults and peers by producing opportunities for them to be seen in a creative and positive light. Students participate as a team working toward a common goal. Each has a unique opportunity to share special skills and talents they may have. Power Tools is a program that kindles high self-esteem, social well-being and strengthens the desire to practice self-discipline to achieve personal goals.

Since 2003, Power Tools has produced workshop programs at six NYC Public Schools, and organizations including Queens Community House, and PAL. Power Tools strengthens the desire to achieve by inspiration, while developing an appreciation for the Arts. Participants immediately recognize their individual potential for success. They become pro-active in pursuing new found goals, and actively involved in the overall life of their schools and communities.

Children and young adults who have attended our after school programs in the past continue to seek us out, so we've put together a youth company. The Power Tools Crew is a core group of 25. The PT Crew is also the cast of our weekly public television series. Power Tools for Life can be seen Mondays at 8:00 pm on Queens Public Television, channel 34. We're seeking funding to present free performances for senior citizen centers and nursing homes in Queens.
