Mission

The Girls' Education Initiative of Ghana, GEIG provides girls, including applicants with special needs beginning in junior secondary school, with academic and financial support needed to reach college and professional opportunities.

Vision

GEIG will transform the lives of young women in Ghana and improve development and poverty reduction of the country overall by offering higher education and professional opportunities to an untapped source of talent.

The Need

Ghana is a thriving middle - income state in West Africa. In spite of this status the country's development is still lacking. The education sector, especially higher education for female students demands attention. There has been a decrease in completion rates for girls in Junior High School, consequently growing the disparity in education for male and female students moving from primary through Junior to Senior Secondary School.

Female students who do not advance from Senior Secondary School to higher education (e.g. training college, 2,4 year colleges, universities) are likely to prematurely enter the workforce and early marriage. Our organization believes that girls should strive for education beyond Senior Secondary School. We believe that the GEIG, through programs and mentoring can equip young women with a fighting chance at becoming an indispensible part of the growing Ghanaian economy.
