BasicNeeds is an international development organisation founded by Chris Underhill with the aim of bringing about a lasting change in the lives of people with mental illness and epilepsy. BasicNeeds currently works in 12 countries implementing the BasicNeeds Model for Mental Health and Development that combines access to community based mental health treatment services with livelihoods support and initiatives to overcome stigma and abuse. Since its foundation in 2000, BasicNeeds has transformed the lives of over 609,000 people with mental illness and epilepsy, their carers and families in Africa and Asia
