Marion P. Thomas Charter School

The Marion P. Thomas Charter School received its charter in 1998 for grades K-6. After a planning year, it opened in 1999 with 60 students in grades K-2. Today there are 760 students in grades PreK-8. The students are a microcosm of the City of Newark and came with the same needs and desires as children in any traditional Newark Public School.

Our mission is to create a 21st Century Village responsive to the needs of children, parents, and the Newark community at-large. We intend to continue to sustain our village by providing project-based educational opportunities, which encourage critical thinking and community responsibility. Additionally, we will provide a comprehensive service center that also addresses the needs of our parents for the purpose of creating a positive home and school environment for our children.”
