Community Assessment and Capacity Building Core

New York City, NY

Sobre Nós

Reducing racial and ethnic disparities in cancer requires strategies that link medically underserved communities into the continuum of care. Community-based participatory research has the potential to generate such strategies, through processes of collaborative planning, experimentation and discovery. In order to identify ways that both Einstein and Montefiore can foster community and academic engagement around eliminating health disparities and creating health equity through CBPR, the Community Assessment and Capacity Building Core (CACBC) was established at AECOM in Jan. 2009 as a new core resource housed in the Einstein Cancer Center. Within the cancer center, the Core has the ultimate goal of engaging Bronx communities to identify ways to improve cancer prevention, screening and treatment outcomes through the formation of lasting partnerships with Community-based organizations and the collaborative development of public health interventions. In addition to the CACBC’s work with the Cancer Center, the Core is designed to acts as a resource to both Bronx CBOs and Einstein faculty interested in developing public health interventions using a Community Based Participatory Research approach.
