State Health Insurance Assistance Program

1987 Congress passed the Older Americans Act. This act mandated that every county in every state offers a number of services to the elderly population in that county. Through this act SHIP was formed.

SHIP is referred to as the State Health Insurance AssistanceProgram. Through SHIP, certified counselors and volunteers are committed to helping Medicare beneficiaries make informed choices regarding health benefits. Counselors and volunteers are not affiliated with any insurance company and will not attempt to sell Medicare beneficiaries insurance.
