Sobre Nós

NYCGMC’s compelling and passionate sound has been a feature of the artistic and gay scenes of New York for years. This year we are proud to enter our 30th successful season, confidently affirming our right to love and live free from fear and with respect across all five boroughs of New York City, and indeed the world. Known for our innovative programming, stylistic breadth and high vocal standards, New York City Gay Men’s Chorus is a community of men comprising a massive 250 voices. Usually appearing in three major concerts each year, we move between Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the other world-class venues of New York City. Affirming our world-class status is the roster of classical and contemporary artists who have performed with us: Marilyn Horne, Roberta Peters, Liza Minnelli, Stephen Sondheim, Barbara Cook, Carol Channing, Jerry Herman, Eartha Kitt, Joel Grey – to name just a few. We are equally proud of our year-round extensive outreach program ‘Connect’, which in 2009 alone has so far included performances in all kinds of contexts – from department stores to Marriage Equality rallies, from street corners and subway rides to elderly care homes and day centers for people with AIDS. In groups large and small, we sing carols and Madonna songs, African chants and freedom songs – whatever will resonate with our audience. Connecting New York gay life with the every corner of the city through song, our 2009 summer alone encompassed over 20 performances in every borough - from Queens to Brooklyn and from Staten Island to the Bronx. Always reaching outside our comfort zone, we are relentless in our desire to bring our message of tolerance and respect to new listeners.
