American Lung Association of the Southwest

The American Lung Association of the Southwest (ALASW), has been improving the lives in the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, and Utah since the early 1900's. Its mission, to prevent lung disease and promote lung health, is achieved through education, research, and advocacy in the areas of tobacco, asthma, lung disease, and air quality. Lung disease is the fourth leading cause of death in America and ALASW is often the first point of contact for individuals with lung disease. ALASW provides practical help and education to people living with asthma, emphysema, and other lung diseases, confronting this disease at the root level by, for example, educating kids about the dangers of smoking, advocating for more smoke-free workplaces, and working to reduce air pollution. Through its branches the ALASW works closely with local, statewide, and governmental partners, utilizes “best practices” and evidenced-based programs, and is respected as an important resource on lung health issues. ALASW serves individuals of all ages and backgrounds, resulting in an ethnically, geographically, and economically diverse audience.
