Sobre Nós

The building is one of four churches in South London built in 1824 in order to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo. Because of its architectural importance, St Matthews Church is listed Grade II* by English Heritage, the body that protects historic buildings and sites. This means that it is one of the top 40,000 structures of architectural merit in England.

The St Matthews building is run by a charitable company called ‘The Brix at St Matthews’. This is a non-profit making organisation whose purpose is to preserve the building for posterity, for the benefit of the local community. The role of The Brix is therefore to raise enough income to look after the fabric of the building and keep it open for wide community use.
