Heartland Hospice Rochester

At Heartland, we consider the chance to be involved in the lives of our patients and families both a sacred opportunity and a privilege. The love, respect, and care our hospice volunteers provide is vitally important to our patients' overall well-being during challenging times. Heartland volunteers offer support, companionship, and compassionate help –interacting directly with patients and families.

When you become a volunteer, we will provide you with a detailed orientation to the hospice program, so you will fully understand our caring philosophy and goals and have the skills needed to assist patients and their families. As a Heartland Hospice Volunteer, you can donate time that fits into your personal schedule, as little or as much time as you would like. You will partner with the Volunteer Coordinator to determine the best role to fill.

As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to enrich the lives of others. You will meet and hear the stories of a wide variety of patients and families. Volunteering at Heartland provides significant value to our team as well as to our patients and families as we work together to provide quality care.

 As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform. The tasks of volunteers include:

·Providing a friendly visit to lift a patient's spirits

·Reading, or providing a comforting touch

·Staying with patients so family members can get a much-needed rest

·Playing or singing soothing music to patients

·Keeping vigil with patients in their final hours

·Providing special veteran volunteer support to patients who are veterans

 These and other tasks are why hospice volunteers are such an essential part of the Heartland Experience.
