Family Promise of St. Tammany

Mission:  Family Promise of St. Tammany is a faith based community response to the issue of homeless families with children.

St. Tammany Parish is starting up a new affiliate of Family Promise, a national interfaith hospitality network with 182 already existing affiliates across the country.  

The program works as follows:
1.  Host congregations take turns providing homeless guests with overnight lodging, meals, and hospitality.  Volunteers at each congregation are responsible for this part of the program.
2.  Guests are transported by van each morning to a Day Center and back to the host congregation each evening.
3.  The Day Center provides a mailing address, showers, and a place to do laundry.  It is the hub of the program.  From here school age children depart to and return from school, guests with jobs depart for work, and guests are connected with Social Service Agencies to help them with their challenges and to ultimately find permanent or transitional housing.  Mothers with preschool children may care for their children here as well.
